Task 1
Imagine that you are preparing a project with your friend. You have found some interesting material for the presentation and you want to read this text to your friend. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, then be ready to read it out aloud. You will not have more than 1.5 minutes to read it.
Humans have been fascinated by birds for centuries, with a variety of species kept as companion animals in cultures around the world. They can make wonderful additions to households, especially if there is limited space or family members are allergic to other animals.
A single bird wants a friend as much as humans do. Many will sing to you, sometimes talk to you, and play with you, especially if you spend time together with a bird out of its cage. Birds are relatively easy to care for. They can be placed inside their cages for safety when owners are at work or busy.
Given proper training and socialization, birds can be every bit as loving and affectionate as cats or dogs. They can also be easily trained to do simple tasks and tricks for you since they are excellent at mimicry.

Task 4
Imagine that you and your friend are doing a school project “Winter activities”. You have found some photos to illustrate it but for technical reasons you cannot send them now. Leave a voice message to your friend explaining your choice of the photos and sharing some ideas about the project. In 2.5 minutes be ready to:
- explain the choice of the illustrations for the project by briefly describing them and noting the differences;
- mention the advantages (1–2) of the two winter activities;
- mention the disadvantages (1–2) of the two winter activities;
- express your opinion on the subject of the project – which of these winter activities you’d prefer and why.
You will speak for not more than 3 minutes (12–15 sentences). You have to talk continuously.
Suggested answer
Hi Alex! I’ve found two photos and would like to explain why I think they could be great for our school project on winter activities.
In one of the photos there’s a man performing snowboard tricks in the mountains. The second photo is of a family ice skating together. The photos illustrate two different winter activities: snowboarding, which is an extreme winter sport, and a more leisurely winter activity – family skating.
Both winter activities have their pros and cons, which I suggest discussing in our project to make it more interesting. Speaking of snowboarding, it offers a unique opportunity to enjoy a mountain view and an adrenaline rush, a feeling like you’re flying. However, this activity is dangerous, especially for beginners, and the risk of injury is high.
On the other hand, ice skating is a great way to spend time with family members while getting some exercise. Still, ice skating can be limited to indoor rinks which can sometimes get crowded during peak hours, making it difficult to enjoy the activity.
Personally, I’d prefer to try snowboarding because it seems like a thrilling experience and a great way to enjoy the winter scenery.
Well, that’s all for now. What do you think about the photos for the project? Let me know! Bye!
